The Assistant Net Manager
The net manager's right hand man, John, KL7QZ, who has been a licensed ham for
50 years, steps in as the or assistant net manager when needed. He is always up to speed and ready to go at a moments
notice.

Now that he is retired from a 37-year career as professor and dean of a major college and from teaching in the Alaska "bush", he enjoys "hamming it up" and is active on the Alaska-Pacific Net as well as on a variety of other nets in Alaska, including the Alaska Snipers Net on 3.920 MHz. John is also an ordained Congregational minister!
Having the choice of two complete station set-ups, John usually uses a "nostalgic" station consisting of a Swan 500 C, Heathkit AT-1, and a National NC-98. Station set-up number two is a "contemporary" station that consists of a Kenwood TS-2000, a 1-KW Ameritron AL-80b, and a Yaesu FT-817 with Tokyo Hy-Power HL50B 50-watt final amplifier designed especially for the 817. His antenna is a Cushcraft A3S, 3 element tri-bander at 50'.
John's first call was WN7BAD, which he jokingly states is an indication of the quality of his operating abilities! He says that he first became interested in ham radio listening to his dad, WA7WOX. John handled emergency traffic in Fairbanks, during the flood of 1967.
John is the "emcee" for the local "Road and Weather Report Net" on 2 meters each morning. He has a great sense of humor that keeps everyone constantly entertained and we are fortunate to have John as our alternate net manager.
